“Together with two other artists, I have recently set up a new studio near Margate called Bright Island Studio and I am so excited to have this huge space to create work in. As well as this space in the photo, I have a separate research room and a dark space for producing light installations/videos/sound work. At night it is very dark around the studio, which is great for stargazing and astrophotography.”
“I am currently reading this harrowing book. “No intelligent life that we know of ever evolved, anywhere in the universe, outside of the narrow Goldilocks range of temperatures that enclosed all of human evolution, and that we have now left behind, probably permanently.” I am grateful for its brutality.”
“This is the sound recorder I used recently to record birdsong at Hinewai Reserve on the Banks Peninsula in New Zealand. Whilst I was staying on the reserve, I had the most incredible experience of natural darkness and visible starlight. I am using these field recordings in an upcoming sound piece.”
“I took this photograph at Hinewai Reserve. The sky was endless and the stars looked like they were falling downwards towards Earth. There was a warm breeze going through the trees and I could hear ruru (morepork owls) in the distance.”
