Initiated by Alteria Art in collaboration with Unlimited Productions and Gaia Art Foundation, Time for Outrage! was a global poster campaign that provided acclaimed artists and members of the public alike with a platform to voice what they are outraged about in the world today.
The first edition took place from 18 July – 1 September 2017 on the prominent billboards of the Great Eastern Gallery Wall, London - with traffic of approximately of 2.1 million passers-by per month, including Jake and Dinos Chapman, John Cooper Clarke, Tracey Emin, Laure Prouvost, Linder Sterling and Robert Montgomery. The Chapman brothers will challenge traditional notions of evil and happiness, while Montgomery will present a new billboard poem questioning borders, city and immigration.
Time for Outrage! was a response to the seminal treatise Indignez-Vous! in which author and prominent member of the French Resistance Stéphane Hessel encourages the youth to fight for their lives and their liberties. Remembering the ideals for which he risked his life, while never forgetting the evils against which he struggled, Hessel issues a rallying call, challenging his audience to take back the rights that have been jeopardised or taken away.
The project took place in various cities around the world, including Berlin, Athens, Moscow, Istanbul, Mexico City and New York City, with the London edition running from 18 July – 1 Sept 2017. The project will culminate on 11 Dec 2018, International Human Rights Day.
